Day 52 (2/28/26) – Cayo Costa Anchorage to Gulf Harbour Marina (Fort Myers)

More dolphin shenanigans!
This dolphin followed us for a long time as we cruised to Fort Myers
Last one, I promise! Next, I’ll be searching for manatees near Sanibel and Captiva Islands.
As we approached Captiva Pass earlier today, we entered a massive fog bank that enveloped us and resulted in very poor visibility (the photo above was taken looking back at the fog from the stern once we had cleared it). At one point there were half a dozen motorboats at our bow as we scrambled for safety. Radar and slow speeds are a must in this situation.
Another view of the fog bank. It was pretty massive and hung low to the water, with blue skies and sunshine above.
We plan to explore Sanibel and Captiva early next week before we fly home for a few months.

After the tense fog bank encounter, we met with the Saturday boating crowds around Sanibel and Fort Myers. This is high season in south Florida so the crowds are pretty thick. There are fishing boats, pontoon boats, and go fast boats, all trying to share the same narrow waterway. Never a dull moment!

Since we left Seabrook, Texas on December 8, 2025, we’ve logged 131 hours on the water and traveled 1,131 miles. AMAZING!

Until next time – sweet dreams!
