Follow our travel adventures aboard M/V Biscuit, a 1989 42 Grand Banks Classic Trawler, Hull #1081.

Day 112 (8/12/26) – Morningstar Marina (Southport) to Port City Marina (Wilmington)

The Southport Farmers Market (that we missed).
The Port of Wilmington. We had a huge tanker about 20 minutes behind us. Luckily, he never caught up with us.
The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge is a steel vertical-lift bridge carrying US 17/US 76/US 421 across the Cape Fear River, connecting Brunswick County and Wilmington, North Carolina. Opened on October 1, 1969, it features a 408-foot main span that can lift 135 feet for marine traffic.
In January 2024, the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WMPO) approved a $1.1 billion project to replace the aging bridge with a new toll bridge. 
The USS North Carolina (BB-55), nicknamed the “Showboat,” is a historic World War II fast battleship permanently moored as a museum ship along the Cape Fear River in Wilmington, North Carolina. Commissioned in 1941, she participated in every major naval offensive in the Pacific Theater during WWII, earning 15 battle stars. 
As the lead ship of her class, she features heavy armor, a prominent superstructure with radar arrays, and triple 16-inch main gun turrets. Decommissioned after the war, she was saved by state citizens and opened as a memorial and museum in Wilmington in 1961.

It was a beautiful day for a cruise! We spent the day heading north on the Cape Fear River. Biscuit is safely docked at Port City Marina in Wilmington, North Carolina, a “hurricane hole” marina that will help protect Biscuit if there is hurricane activity while we’re gone. We’ll continue our adventure when we return. Until next time – sweet dreams!
