Day 52 (2/28/26) – Cayo Costa Anchorage to Gulf Harbour Marina (Fort Myers)

After the tense fog bank encounter, we met with the Saturday boating crowds around Sanibel and Fort Myers. This is high season in south Florida so the crowds are pretty thick. There are fishing boats, pontoon boats, and go fast boats, all trying to share the same narrow waterway. Never a dull moment! Since we…

Day 51 (2/27/26) – Boca Grande Marina to Cayo Costa Anchorage

We had such a lovely time in Boca Grande- I was sad to leave. We had a short cruise to our anchor for the night near Cayo Costa State Park – they’re still recovering from Hurricane Ian shenanigans. We’ll check it out in the morning with the dinghy before we head to Fort Myers. Until…

Day 50 (2/26/26) – Layover at Boca Grande (Gasparilla Island)

Florida shell collection at the majestic Gasparilla Inn, Boca Grande Today’s highlight was beach combing in Boca Grande (Florida beaches are my happy place). Shark tooth hunting was the highlight of our stay in the Venice area. Biscuit was docked in Englewood, a sleepy little town to the south. We rented a car and explored the coast to the north. We visited Venice Inlet, Caspersen Beach, Manasota Key Beach, and Stump Pass Beach. The sand is quite coarse and…

Day 43 (2/19/26) – Marine Jack (Sarasota) to Cape Haze Marina (Englewood)

Today’s journey was uneventful and scenic. Lots of marinas mangroves, and beautiful yachts. Tomorrow’s assignment – exploring nearby beaches for fossilized shark teeth and seashells! We have no less than six beaches to explore between Venice Beach and Stump Pass Beach. Trivia – Stephen King (I’m a HUGE fan) winters on the northern end of…

Day 39 (2/15/26) – Layover in St. Petersburg, Florida

We’ve had a lovely layover in St. Petersburg, Florida! The weather could not have been more perfect – it’s been a lovely respite after a frigid couple of weeks in Apalachicola. We were able to cycle easily and visited numerous eateries and museums downtown. We plan to depart for Sarasota in the morning with the…
