Day 50 (2/26/26) – Layover at Boca Grande (Gasparilla Island)

The beautiful beaches of Boca Grande
Intact southern quahog, showing the juvenile zig zag stripes
The lovely Gasparilla Inn at night. We explored the first floor after dinner and were immediately transported to a much earlier time. Beautifully decorated.

Florida shell collection at the majestic Gasparilla Inn, Boca Grande

Dinner at The Temptation – we couldn’t get table reservations, so we ate at the bar. The food was amazing and we met some really nice people!
Banyan trees, Boca Grande
Some of my treasures
My fossilized shark teeth collection! They’re quite small and a challenge to find. I kept getting distracted by the beautiful shells. We started our hunt on Caspersen Beach in Venice (huge crowds) and finished on the 10th Street Beach in Boca Grande (no crowds).

Today’s highlight was beach combing in Boca Grande (Florida beaches are my happy place). Boca Grande has a very Old Florida feel to it – very laid back and quiet. There are no traffic lights and golf carts are the main source of transportation. The beaches are lovely and not crowded. We had a delicious dinner at The Temptation – highly recommend it if you’re in town. Yeah, I could live here!

Tomorrow, we head to Cayo Costa for a quiet anchorage – we plan to explore Cayo Costa State Park by dinghy. We vacationed in the Sanibel/Captiva area for 20+ years with our kids and I’m always happy to return. Best shelling ever. Until next time – sweet dreams!
