Day 32 (2/8/26) – Scipio Creek Marina to Clearwater Harbor Marina (Overnight Gulf Crossing)

A VERY BIG DAY! After spending 2+ weeks in Apalachicola, Florida waiting for crew and weather, Biscuit has finally departed for the overnight Gulf Crossing with Rob Heverly as Captain and Captain Chris Day as First Mate. I drove Chris’s van from Apalach to St. Pete and will meet the crew at the Clearwater Harbor Marina midday tomorrow.

We first met Chris in March 2017 when we chartered a 36 foot Grand Banks Classic named MissLED in Cape Coral, Florida. Chris also crewed when Rob brought Biscuit home to Seabrook, Texas from Madisonville, Louisiana. I must say he hasn’t changed a bit!

We had the most interesting dining experience at Lynn’s Quality Oysters in Eastpoint last night. They had a very limited menu, but the raw oysters, steamed shrimp, and homemade key lime pie were delicious!
The general Gulf crossing route from Apalachicola to Clearwater, Florida. A very long, overnight run. Calm winds and seas are a must.

Biscuit’s live GPS location as of 9 pm EST on 2/8. Departure time was scheduled for a mid morning arrival at Clearwater. This timing results in the best avoidance of crap trap floats on the route as you approach the shallows near Clearwater. The floats and lines can wreak havoc on the props.

More details on the crossing tomorrow. Until then – sweet dreams!
