Day 18 (1/25/26) – Layover in Apalachicola

We have 2 Tern Link 8 folding bikes that we keep in the rear lazarette. We had a chance to explore the city before the big cold arrived.
Apalachicola Bay finally reopened this year for oyster harvesting. Shell mounds are everywhere, reaching to the sky like some ceremonial altar.
I stop for turtles.
This is Ernest. He’s a descendant of the famous 6 toed (polydactyl) Hemingway cats of Key West. Polydactyl cats are supposed to bring good luck to sailors.

We spent the day settling into our new slip and exploring the waterfront and neighborhoods. Until tomorrow – sweet dreams!
