Day 11 (12/18/25) – Boomtown Casino Anchorage to Orleans Marina (Mississippi River Crossing)

A very fancy house boat along the GIWW
Another fancy barge style boat
Typical RR bridge along the GIWW
Algiers Lock. Easy peasy – we just floated through.
Here’s Biscuit passing Mallory Brady, a tug pushing 2 empty barges strung out (single wide). Go Biscuit, go!
We passed Kibo “on the one whistle” (port to port) on the Mississippi River.
Downtown New Orleans from the Biscuit on the Mississippi River.
Check out the clearance on tug Zephyr and his empty load as he enters the Industrial Canal Lock. Talk about a tight squeeze!
Somebody wasn’t paying attention…
Brown pelicans were checking us out at the Industrial Lock as we waited for passage.
Exiting the Industrial Lock. The lockmasters are all very professional as they manage a huge amount of industrial traffic in both directions.
The last time I was on the Mississippi River was on the Natchez river boat. I was in eight grade on a school field trip!
Cumulative trip data from Nebo. That’s a lot of miles!

We had excellent cruising weather today – light winds and sunny.

Today was a milestone day for us. We crossed the mighty Mississippi River via the Algiers Lock followed by the Industrial Canal Lock. We transitioned from the GIWW to scenic Lake Pontchartrain for our extended marina stay at Orleans Marina. We plan to return in mid January and continue our travels east to Florida.

Until tomorrow – sweet dreams!
