Day 4 (12/11/25) – Calcasieu River Oxbow to Mermentau River

We had another lovely cruising day with sunny skies, light winds, and cool temperatures. Last night’s anchorage was a bit of a challenge (shallow depths) due to silting from past storms, along with wind and water current effects. We would not recommend anchoring there! We carefully retraced our steps into the Calcasieu and once again were joined by lots of barge traffic on the GIWW. We had our first encounter with locks (Calcasieu Lock and Dam) and a cute swing bridge (Black Bayou Bridge). Tonight we’re at a lovely protected anchorage on the Mermentau River. Have a great night!
